Studying can prove to be the most rewarding time in one’s life, but can also turn out to be a personal challenge that can lead topsychological crises. Students face diverse dependencies (parents, instructors, finances, etc.) when compared to non-students of the same age. Additionally, the distance between one’s hometown and the place of study often leads to a loss of social belonging to one’s peer group, requiring students to be proactive, have self-discipline and be self-confident (e.g., for getting in contact, speaking freely in front of strangers, planning and fulfilling the semester plan). Last but not least, the conditions at university are often characterized by anonymity, performance demands, and a competitive culture. These special circumstances can lead to psychological stress requiring students to seek out professional assistance.
