Infothek
The Infothek in the Mensaria am Schloss (Bismarckstraße 10 | Entrance A) is the first point of contact for students at Mannheim’s universities. Our international team can tell you all about the services offered by the Studierendenwerk, answer your questions and provide helpful tips for getting off to a good start in Mannheim.

Social Counseling
Our Social Counseling service supports students with social, financial and legal questions. Students with children as well as students with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses can also find professional advice and individual support on issues related to their studies, everyday life and personal circumstances.

PBS Psychological Counseling Center
The Psychological Counseling Center (PBS) provides students with confidential, professional support for personal and study-related challenges. Services include psychological counseling and coaching in German and English, helping you understand what’s causing stress, develop solutions and identify the right next steps.

BAföG+Co.
Studying comes with plenty of expenses – from rent and groceries to transportation, study materials and semester fees. That’s why it’s a good idea to start planning how to finance your studies early on. The Studierendenwerk can advise you on BAföG and other financial aid options.
Our BAföG Service Center allows you to take care of many BAföG-related formalities conveniently online. We can also provide information about other financing options that may be available either independently of BAföG or in addition to it.
Food+Drink
Our university dining services offer a varied and balanced selection of food at student-friendly prices. Our dining halls serve freshly prepared meals made with mostly regional ingredients, while our cafeterias offer a wide range of snacks and drinks for your day on campus.
You can pay cashless at our facilities – either with your chip card or, at payment points marked with the PAY BY APP symbol, with the StudiPlus²® App, including convenient features such as Autoload and Coffeeload®.

Housing
The Studierendenwerk offers around 3,000 affordable places to live in 14 student housing complexes close to Mannheim’s universities. Options range from rooms in shared apartments to single-room apartments with a kitchenette and bathroom. If no student housing is currently available, our free online private accommodation service can help you find an alternative.

Registering with the City
If you are new to Mannheim, you must register your address with the Bürgerdienste in K 7 within two weeks of moving in. Registration forms are available at www.mannheim.de → search for “Anmeldung Wohnsitz.” Please note: Mannheim has charged a secondary residence tax since 2018. Further information is available from the City of Mannheim.
Broadcasting Fee
Everyone is generally required to pay the broadcasting fee. The fee is €18.36 per month and is charged per household, regardless of the number of people living there. Tip: Recipients of certain social benefits and BAföG may be eligible for an exemption from the broadcasting fee.

Studying with Children
Student parents can turn to us for advice and support to help balance their studies and family life. In addition, the Studierendenwerk’s Kinderhaus at N 6,1 provides childcare in nursery and mixed-age groups for children between the ages of one and six.
