About us

Successful studies at the universities in Mannheim involve more than just excellent teaching and research. The “trappings” must also be right.

This is where the Studierendenwerk comes into play – YOUR PARTNER ON CAMPUS. Large parts of the social infrastructure for students in Mannheim are set up and operated by the Studierendenwerk. We take care of the students’ needs, from student financing to balanced catering in the canteens and cafeterias and the provision of accommodation to qualified social and psychological counselling and childcare during their studies, thus creating the framework conditions for successful studies.

Studierendenwerk Mannheim is organised in the legal form of an institution under public law. Around 25,000 students at

can use the services offered by the Studierendenwerk. Our aim is to make the university environment in Mannheim even more attractive.

As a service organisation with a social mission, we work according to the principles of non-profit and self-administration. Our main source of finance is our own income; this is supplemented by grants from the state of Baden-Württemberg and the semester contribution from students.

The Studierendenwerk Mannheim belongs to the umbrella organisation Deutsches Studierendenwerk (DSW), in which the 57 student services organisations in Germany have voluntarily joined forces. As an association, the DSW represents the social interests of students and the interests of the student services organisations vis-à-vis politicians, the public and the umbrella organisations of universities and science. The association also maintains close cooperation with institutions and organisations with the same goals. The association supports the Studentenwerke by organising further training courses, providing expertise in federal and state legislation and advising on day-to-day work.

The Studierendenwerk Mannheim is also a member of the ARGE der Studierendenwerke Süd-West. This cross-state association serves to promote professional exchange and utilise synergies. The common goal is to offer all students the best possible support in coping with their studies – especially in social, economic, cultural and health matters. While maintaining the independence of the individual Studierendenwerk, particular attention is paid to the optimisation and harmonisation of business processes and the application of best practice models.
