Cashless payments
At our facilities, you can conveniently pay without cash – using your chip card or the new StudiPlus²® App.
Depending on your university, you can use your student or staff ID card (ecUM, HSCard, or CampusCard) as your chip card. Students from other universities, university staff, state employees, and other guests can purchase a MensA-card for a small deposit (€6.00) at our service points.
Both payment options have their own separate balance and can be used independently or alongside each other. Your chip card works at all our payment terminals. Payments with the StudiPlus²® App are initially being introduced as part of a pilot phase at our facilities on the University of Mannheim campus.
App or chip card
With the StudiPlus²® App
Scan the QR code – done. The amount is deducted directly from your app balance.
Initially, app payments are available on the University of Mannheim campus: During the pilot phase, you can pay with the app at Mensaria am Schloss, EO, and Café Soleil, as well as at the coffee machines at these locations.
Look for this symbol: It shows you where app payments are available.
Once the pilot phase has been successfully completed, app payments will gradually be rolled out to other Studierendenwerk facilities.

With the chip card
Tap your card and pay. Your chip card works at all registers, machines, and other payment terminals at Studierendenwerk Mannheim.
Since app payments are only available at payment points marked with the symbol during the pilot phase, we recommend that you continue to carry your chip card with you.

Two balances – independent of each other
The StudiPlus²® App and your chip card each have their own separate balance.
App balance ≠ card balance
When you top up your app balance, the balance on your chip card remains unchanged – and vice versa.
This allows you to use both payment options independently of each other.
Top up with Autoload convenently
With Autoload, you can top up your balance cashlessly via your bank account. To use this feature, you need to set up a SEPA direct debit mandate.
Autoload is available for both the StudiPlus²® App and the chip card. However, the two systems are separate. You set up and manage Autoload separately for the app and the chip card. Settings, bank details, and configurations are not transferred automatically.
App or chip card – which one do I need?
You can use the StudiPlus²® App to pay at dining halls and cafeterias on the University of Mannheim campus, as well as at the coffee machines at these locations. Look for the symbol: It indicates the payment points where app payments are available.
Wherever app payments are not yet available, simply use your chip card. We therefore recommend that you continue to carry it with you.
